Nick and Mika met the way many modern lovers do these days— online via a dating app called Hinge.

First Date

Hayes Valley, Sep '18

For their first date, Nick ditched a photography trip with Adam (best decision ever but we still love you Adam).

He met Mika at the Church of 8 Wheels, an abandoned church turned roller skating rink (#risque). Luckily none of them fell while skating (only for each other 😘😘😘).

After skating, they headed down to Hayes Valley to wrap up a memorable night together over ice cream.

The Lost Tooth

Ferry Building, Oct '18

Nick and Mika had one of their early dates at the Ferry Building in San Francisco. While eating chilaquiles, Nick's tooth fell off. (His tooth was already fake, from when a kid threw a billiard ball at him when he was young.)

Mika kept cool and still went on future dates with Nick after that. That's when Nick knew she was a keeper.

DTR

SF, Nov '18

Their relationship was official, after a happy Thanksgiving dinner with friends.

ILY via Slides

SF, Aug '19

As a product manager, Mika made a nerdy Slides presentation for Nick's birthday. She collected data from his friends and presented it to him like a corporate presentation.

At the end, she told Nick she loved him for the first time and he said it back.

Meeting Nick's Mom

Daly City, Aug '19

The following week, Mika finally met Tita Monique, Nick's mom, who visited SF from Michigan. They ate at a Filipino restaurant in Daly City along with some friends. They both got along very well.

Meeting Mika's Family

SF, Dec '19

Mika's family celebrated Christmas in America in 2019 and met Nick for the first time. Nick quickly bonded with Tito Freddie, Mika's dad but had to earn his spot with Tita Myra, Mika's mom.

After cooking some sinigang-coated chicken together for Christmas dinner, he did just that and she eventually invited Nick to join them in the family Tahoe trip as well. Nice one, Nick!

Pandemic Era

After their last IRL hangout with friends on March 16, 2020, Nick and Mika were stuck with each other during the pandemic. Luckily, the pandemic brought them closer together rather than further apart.

Nomad Life

USA, Jan - Dec '21

As the world was opening up, Nick and Mika started to venture outside of San Francisco, living a nomadic life in hacker houses with friends. They stayed in Utah, Texas, New York, Philadelphia, Boston, Chicago, Hawaii and Michigan.

Moving to New York

New York, Jan '22

After getting a glimpse of living in New York for 2 months, they both decided to make it their new home (for now!)

The Proposal

"Finally!" was the first thought that popped into Mika's head when she had inklings that Nick was going to propose. She gave him the deadline to propose at the end of 2023, so he was actually 8 months delayed.

While Mika basically knew the proposal was going to happen, she still thought Nick did an AMAZING job flying her family and friends from across the globe to surprise her on this special day.
